London, UK - July 15, 2025 - Climate Action for Associations (CAFA), is delighted to welcome BPF, the UK’s leading trade association for the plastics industry, in CAFA’s growing global network. Officially founded in 1933, BPF represents a broad and influential part of UK industry, from packaging manufacturers and plastic recyclers to equipment suppliers, supporting practical steps toward reducing environmental impact and building a more resource-efficient future.
Why this partnership matters
Plastics play a complex role in climate change. While they are essential to modern life, from healthcare and food preservation, to insulation and lightweight transport, plastic production and disposal carry significant environmental costs. BPF’s members span a large proportion of the plastics value chain, from raw material suppliers to recyclers and processors. This gives the federation a unique ability to support change across the system, including in areas like energy efficiency, eco-design, and waste reduction. Through initiatives such as the Net Zero Hub, Eco Design Guide, and Recycling Roadmap, BPF offers its members tools and data to improve performance and transparency, while also engaging with government and regulators to advocate for practical, evidence-based climate and waste policy.
Collaborating for climate action
The BPF–CAFA partnership recognises that climate action in materials manufacturing must be grounded in systems thinking. Decarbonising plastics is not about simple fixes, it requires a shift in how materials are designed, used, recovered, and valued.
By joining CAFA, BPF brings valuable sector insight into broader climate discussions, ensuring that efforts to reduce emissions are informed by real-world constraints and opportunities. This includes support for more circular approaches, investment in recycling technologies, and smarter resource use.
"As a founding voice in the UK plastics industry, the British Plastics Federation (BPF) recognises the vital role collaboration plays in tackling climate change. Through our engagement with CAFA, we can build on existing BPF resources and help drive practical progress on carbon reduction, as well as empowering our members to adopt sustainable practices that align with the transition to a circular economy." Helen Jordan, Sustainability Manager at British Plastics Federation.
