Distilling a Greener Future: EWG Joins the CAFA Collective

ree

London, UK - August 15, 2025 - Climate Action for Associations (CAFA) is excited to welcome the English Whisky Guild (EWG) as a new member of the CAFA Collective. Founded in 2022, the EWG brings together producers across a fast-growing category to promote and protect English whisky, elevate quality standards, and champion the sector’s distinct flavour-led identity. With 26 member companies and a wider landscape of around 50 active distilleries, the Guild plays a pivotal role in building recognition for English whisky at home and abroad while helping members navigate growth, governance, and responsible business practices.

Why this partnership matters

Under the leadership of CEO Morag Garden, the EWG is advancing a clear vision: to secure a respected place for English whisky globally and to underpin that ambition with credible standards and sustainability outcomes. The Guild has been instrumental in progressing a Geographical Indication (GI) for English whisky, an important step toward clarity, consumer trust, and category integrity, while advocating for approaches that go beyond compliance and support long-term business planning typical of whisky maturation cycles.

Collaborating for climate action

By joining CAFA, the English Whisky Guild is taking a significant step to embed and accelerate climate action across England’s whisky value chain, from grain and water stewardship to energy, packaging, logistics, and visitor-site operations. Through this collaboration, EWG members will have access to clear guidance and resources, peer to peer learning, and tools that make it simpler to communicate progress with members.

“We’re pleased to join Climate Action for Associations (CAFA). Being part of this network gives us the chance to share ideas, learn from others, and access practical tools and guidance that we can pass on to English Whisky distillers as they continue their sustainability journey.” Morag Garden, CEO at English Whiskey Guild
