Engineering Sustainability with Precision: BTMA Joins the CAFA Collective

London, UK - September 4, 2025 - Climate Action for Associations (CAFA) is excited to welcome the British Turned Parts Manufacturers Association (BTMA) as a new member of the CAFA Collective. BTMA is the UK trade association for manufacturers of precision turned parts and machined components, representing firms that supply into sectors such as automotive, leisure and defence, and sourcing materials including copper, brass and engineering steels from across the UK and Europe. All BTMA members are UK-registered, and the association convenes regular meetings to share technical, market and policy updates.

Why this partnership matters

BTMA’s members are at different stages of their sustainability journey: some are actively investing in on-site measures (e.g., solar), while many others are navigating costs and growing customer requests for climate commitments and data. At the same time, evolving Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) policy in the UK and EU, covering materials such as aluminium and (in the EU) during a transitional phase before full application, poses new obligations for BTMA's members. By joining CAFA, BTMA will be able to connect with peers facing similar challenges, and leverage a network of organisations committed to reducing emissions and supporting their members with compliance.

Together, CAFA and BTMA aim at promoting credible guidance on transition planning, supplier engagement and reporting, while fostering peer learning tailored to SMEs and microbusinesses. In the short-term, CAFA will work with BTMA to deliver accessible CBAM updates, how-to guidance for SME members (e.g. on net zero, CBAM, science-based targets), while exploring the long term opportunities for emissions reductions in the industry, building on existing good practice such as high use of recycled metals - as well as identifying effective ways for the industry to become more sustainable through circularity, procurement, energy management and policy engagement in coordination with other associations.

"BTMA is proud to join CAFA and bring the perspective of UK precision turned parts manufacturers to the network. Our industry supplies vital components across many sectors from automotive to energy, and we know sustainability is key to its future. Working with CAFA will help us support our members in reducing carbon and building more resilient, responsible supply chains." Peter Hobbs, Director at BTMA
