London, UK - July 9, 2025 - Climate Action for Associations (CAFA), is delighted to welcome the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT), the UK’s professional body representing registered music therapists, music therapy students, and researchers, into its growing global network. Founded in 1980, BAMT champions the transformative power of music in clinical, educational, and community settings across the UK.
Why this partnership matters
Music therapy practitioners often work within hospitals, schools, mental health services, and community organisations that are directly affected by climate change. From the increasing mental health impacts of heatwaves to the resiliency needs of vulnerable populations, BAMT’s membership is uniquely positioned to link climate and wellbeing.
BAMT’s experience in health equity and community engagement adds depth to CAFA’s portfolio of approaches to decarbonisation, offering opportunities for education, advocacy, and organisational culture change.
Not only that, but like all healthcare providers, music therapists will be increasingly confronted with the consequences of global warming on physical and mental health as well as social trajectories, especially on vulnerable populations who are most at risk from the consequences of unaddressed climate change (recession, reduced opportunity, health impacts).
A novel pathway in climate action
The BAMT - CAFA partnership shows that climate leadership can be extended through professionals who have a significant role in reducing their own emissions, but also in influencing their stakeholders. Music therapists are eager to make a difference, and we're excited to start working closely with them to help them deliver.
”At BAMT, we believe in striking the right chord when it comes to climate action. By joining CAFA, we’re amplifying the message that harmony with the planet matters - and we're eager to demonstrate that every sector has a role to play. We're proud to have a membership of professionals who are keen to become more sustainable, and we know there are many ways we can improve the sector's impact. Together, we’re composing a lower-carbon future, one meaningful collaboration at a time." Andrew Langford, CEO of the British Association for Music Therapy.
By joining CAFA, BAMT also signals that systems-level change encompasses all parts of society and sectors, and connects with issues such as health and wellbeing. About CAFA
Climate Action for Associations (CAFA) is the only dedicated network and resource hub focused on sustainability and net zero for the membership sector. CAFA equips professional bodies and trade associations with the guidance, tools, and peer-to-peer connections they need to take meaningful climate action and support their members in doing the same.
