London, UK - July 17, 2025 - Climate Action for Associations (CAFA) is delighted to welcome LightingEurope, the principal trade association representing the lighting industry in Europe, in CAFA’s growing global network. Officially founded in 2012, LightingEurope represents the voice of the lighting industry in Europe, from global manufacturers and national associations to companies driving innovation in energy-efficient, human-centric, and sustainable lighting. Together, they support practical steps toward reducing environmental impact, improving wellbeing, and contributing to a circular, low-carbon economy.
Why this partnership matters
Lighting plays a critical yet often underappreciated role in climate action. High-efficiency lighting technologies reduce energy use across homes, cities, and industries, while sustainable design and recyclability are increasingly essential for environmental performance.
LightingEurope members cover the full value chain - from producers of light sources and luminaires to providers of smart lighting controls and connected systems. This positions the industry to influence not just emissions, but also wellbeing, productivity, and sustainable building design.
The federation actively promotes legislation and standards that improve product lifetimes, facilitate reuse and recycling, and reduce hazardous substances. Ongoing work such as the LightingEurope Sustainable Product Regulation advocacy, and work on lighting quality and digitalisation reflect its commitment to systemic, evidence-based change.
Collaborating for climate action
The LightingEurope-CAFA partnership recognises that decarbonisation isn’t only about energy, it’s also about designing smarter, longer-lasting, and more adaptable systems.
LightingEurope brings sector-specific insight into the broader sustainability conversation, supporting efforts that align product policy, innovation, and circular design. As the EU and global markets move toward net zero, lighting will play a growing role in delivering energy savings and material efficiency.
“By joining the CAFA community, LightingEurope commits to supporting our members on the path to net zero. Through CAFA’s guidance and peer exchange, we aim to strengthen both our internal climate action and our external support. This also means embracing a clear intention to lead by example - an important starting point for LightingEurope and the industry we represent.” Teresa Selvaggio, Director of Public Affairs at Lighting Europe
