London, UK - August 15, 2025 - Climate Action for Associations (CAFA) is delighted to welcome the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) as a new member of the CAFA Collective. As the leading professional body for general practitioners in the UK, RCGP is dedicated to improving healthcare services and supporting its members in achieving sustainable and net-zero goals. RCGP is focused on integrating sustainability into healthcare practices, with a special emphasis on primary care networks and integrated care boards across England.
Why this partnership matters
RCGP’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its work with GP practices, primary care networks, and NHS England, providing vital resources and consultancy to help members transition to net-zero practices. With over 7,000 GP practices and 42 regional integrated care boards, RCGP plays a key role in driving sustainable change within the healthcare sector. However, the challenge of accessing funding remains significant, and RCGP is dedicated to securing both local and central funding to support these efforts.
By joining CAFA, RCGP will enhance its ability to work with members to access the necessary resources for sustainability, including strategies for reporting emissions (such as Scope 3) and developing formal policies. This collaboration will also allow RCGP to contribute to climate policy discussions and share best practices, further supporting the transition to a more sustainable healthcare system across the UK.
Collaborating for climate action
Through this partnership, RCGP will be able to strengthen its role in driving sustainability within healthcare, leveraging CAFA’s network and resources to accelerate the adoption of net-zero practices. With a focus on developing policies, strategies, and events to engage members, RCGP is well-positioned to contribute to the broader goal of reducing emissions and promoting sustainability in the healthcare sector. Together, we can support healthcare organisations in navigating the complexities of climate action, ensuring the future of sustainable healthcare for all.
"The Royal College of General Practitioners is proud to join CAFA in recognising the critical connection between planetary health and patient health. As trusted voices in communities across the UK, GPs are playing a unique role in supporting a sustainable future. By working collaboratively on carbon reduction and climate adaptation, we aim to lead by example, helping to build a healthier NHS and a healthier planet." Kerry Hilton, Sustainability Lead at The Royal College of General Practitioners
