Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) Joins CAFA to Accelerate Climate Leadership
London, UK – July 7, 2025 – Climate Action for Associations (CAFA) is pleased to welcome the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA), the UK’s leading trade association for companies designing, manufacturing, and supplying advanced manufacturing machinery and digitalisation systems, into its network. Founded in 1919 and headquartered in London, MTA members include pioneering firms in machine tools, robotics, additive manufacturing, CAD/CAM, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Why this partnership matters
MTA brings to CAFA a unique lens on decarbonisation. Their member companies power much of the UK’s industrial backbone and are central to global supply chains. As trade-offs between economic competitiveness and climate responsibility intensify, MTA’s engagement with CAFA opens practical avenues to embed climate action across sectors, from designing low‑carbon automation systems to enhancing energy efficiency in manufacturing operations.
Moreover, MTA’s commitment to decarbonisation is not new. Recent webinars hosted by MTA, in collaboration with WMG and HVMC, have already begun unpacking how data-driven energy reductions can simultaneously cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions while reducing costs. By joining CAFA, MTA gains access to a cross-sector toolkit that includes peer learning, tailored guidance, and standards-aligned frameworks - to scale that work more rapidly and broadly.
What CAFA and MTA will achieve together
Peer-to-peer exchange - MTA is joining alongside other organisations in the manufacturing industry, such as SHAPA and GAMBICA. MTA will be able to learn and coordinate with other associations, while CAFA will learn from MTA about advanced machinery and manufacturing technology, which is essential for effective cross-sector collaboration in a low carbon economy that will heavily rely on new manufacturing processes, products, and requires efficiency gains. Shared insights from steel to concrete to manufacturing equipment mean members can adopt proven strategies.
Access to science-based frameworks - Through CAFA’s partnership of Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) content into its programs MTA members will have easy access to SBTi resources and contacts via MTA's membership, including sector-specific guidance on setting credible reduction targets.
"We are delighted to have joined CAFA as we continue our journey and commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and helping our members transition to net zero. We work closely with the UK supply chain in our sector and aim to help use our members technology to reduced and in some case, even reverse emissions. We hope this partnership will have a positive impact and support our Members."
James Fudge, Head of Operations at the Manufacturing Technologies Association
Amplified scale of impact - MTA represents firms that build the tools underpinning industry-wide modernisation. As these firms decarbonise, they amplify climate benefits across their customer ecosystems - from aerospace to automotive and beyond.
Skills and education leadership - Known for its work in training and talent - through MACH exhibitions, TDI challenges, and courses - MTA is positioned to infuse climate literacy into the next generation of engineers.
A powerful model for industry climate action
Trade bodies like MTA are uniquely positioned to deliver sectoral change. Joining Climate Action for Associations, at a time where associations are under increasing scrutiny from NGOs and corporations alike, empowers them to multiply impact:
Internally, by greening associations’ own operations and events;
Externally, by mobilising member businesses;
Sector‑wide, by embedding climate criteria in standards and procurement.
With MTA now on board, CAFA’s network gains a critical voice in manufacturing technology - the very engines that will drive industrial decarbonisation.
MTA’s expertise in tech innovation, standards lobbying, and member education will enhance cross-sectoral learning opportunities within CAFA, accelerating the shift to net zero for associations and their industries alike.
About CAFA
Climate Action for Associations (CAFA) is the only dedicated network and resource hub focused on sustainability and net zero for the membership sector. CAFA equips professional bodies and trade associations with the guidance, tools, and peer-to-peer connections they need to take meaningful climate action and support their members in doing the same.
